We provide nationwide Face Fit Testing and RPE Training, supporting organisations in strengthening workplace safety, reducing exposure risks, and ensuring every employee is protected with properly fitted Respiratory Protective Equipment.

Every year, thousands of workers pay the price for poor respiratory protection. Around 12,000 people die annually from lung disease linked to workplace exposure, and another 18,000 report work-related breathing or lung problems. That’s why Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE) matters—because preventing airborne hazards now protects your long-term health. While extraction and filtration systems should always be the first line of defence, properly fitted RPE dramatically reduces your risk of inhaling dangerous substances and developing life-changing respiratory illness later in life.

Qualitative Fit Testing (FFP2 / FFP3 Mask / N95 / Half Face Masks)
Qualitative Face Fit Testing is a straightforward pass/fail method used to check whether an half face mask or respirators with disposable filters, forms an effective seal around the wearer’s face. The test relies on the wearer’s ability to detect a harmless but distinct bitter or sweet taste, which indicates any leakage around the mask’s face seal. If the person can taste or smell the substance, it’s a clear sign that the mask's seal isn't tight enough, resulting in a "fail."
During the procedure, a fit-testing hood is placed over the wearer’s head to create a controlled test environment. A specialised test solution—commonly a bitter-tasting agent similar to those used to discourage nail biting—is sprayed into the hood. If the wearer can taste the solution, the mask does not fit correctly and must be adjusted or replaced.
This method is widely used across Ireland to ensure proper Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE) fit, support workplace safety compliance, and verify that employees are fully protected when using half face masks.
The Test is broken into 2 parts
1: Sensitivity Test:
This step is carried out without the mask to confirm that the participant can detect the test solution. A small, diluted amount of the a safe test solution is sprayed into the hood, and the participant must immediately inform the tester as soon as they notice any taste.
2: The Fit Test:
This stage involves seven straightforward one-minute exercises performed while wearing the mask. Each movement is designed to assess the integrity of the mask seal and replicate typical workplace activity.
